SERVICE ON THE HORIZON

So there are some events on the horizon that need "TONE STTERS" and servants with patient and humble hearts!

There is another AGAPE Service Day on Saturday, Novmeber 7th. Join Westminster PCA, and St. Paul's from 8:30 to 3:30. There will be a Kid's Club, food sorting at Golden Harvest, and other service and outreach opportunities.

Sunday, November 8th we need volunteers to help out during the evening service at Lakemont. The Children's Ministry will host a "Peanut Party". Volunteers are needed to help with games and dinner.

November 24th and 25th we will head to Atlanta to serve at the Operation Christmas Child distribution site. We will leave from Lakemont at 12:30 on Tuesday and return by mid afternoon on Wednesday. We know these are weekdays and Thanksgiving week but hopefully some of you from Columbia County, who have that week off, will join us. Spots are limited, we only have 9 spots left, so fill out a form and get it to Noah or Krystal ASAP!!!!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23rd, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Lakemont will host the 2nd Annual Dirty Nasty LYM! Those with weak stomachs beware! Eat before you come, only water will be served at Dirty Nasty. Please wear clothes and shoes that you never want to wear again, you might want to wear a bathing suit under your clothes and bring a change of clothes, Lakemont will provide trash bags for you to wear home! Notice that we will head home a little early, we are ending early so you can wash a little longer in the shower when you get home! Protective googles will be provided to everyone! Come join us for this once a year fun time, you will have fun! You might wonder what games we are playing... All I can say is it involves Rotisserie Chickens! See you tomorrow night.

FALL ATLANTA RETREAT

We hope that you will bring a friend a join us for a fun weekend in ATLANTA! October 2nd through 4th the High school and Middle school are heading to Atlanta for a day at Six Flags and a Braves game! The cost is only $75.00 for the entire weekend, if you sign up by September 13th, $90.00 after the 13th. That covers transportation, hotel rooms, Six Flags ticket, meal in Six Flags, Dinner at the Varsity, and a Braves Ticket! We are using this trip as a Fellowship and Outreach trip, so come enjoy Atlanta in the Fall with us and bring a friend with you! Forms are available at the church, and if you have any questions call Krystal or Noah.

OH.... and if you are the first one to sign up you will receive a special prize at Six Flags or the Braves Game, and if you bring a new friend who is not an LYM regular, both you and the friend will get a special prize at the Braves Game!

But there are two events this week that promise to be fun and worth your while!
Tomorrow, Wednesday the 12th of August, we have our last LYM Swimming LUAU at the neighborhood pool of Amy and Julie Vincent. Join us from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm for a fun night of pool games, pizza, and fellowship! All you need to bring is your swimsuit and a towel, and any pool games.

The Vincents live in the Wexford neighborhood, on Fury's Ferry, directly across from Publix on Fury's Ferry. If your parents are coming to pick you up at 8:30 they will need the code, please call Janet Vincent or Krystal Lyon to get this code.

And on Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm we hope you will join us for the last SUMMER AGAPE PROJECT! Please wear clothes that you could possibly get paint on or get dirty, and wear closed toe shoes. There will be multiple places to serve in the morning and afternoon. Please call Krystal or Noah if you are interested in serving with us on Saturday!

Tonight Redeemer PCA, Lakemont PCA, Christ Church PCA, and Westminster PCA will meet together for a Youth Social! Come meet some old friends, some new friends and enjoy singing, testimonies, games, fellowship and The Word! It all starts at 6:30 PM in the Lakemont Fellowship Hall. We will finish the night off at Dairy Queen on Fury's Ferry so bring a couple dollars. We will be done by 9:00 PM! I really hope that you will join us for this wonderful time together! How sweet it is when we can gather together as Christians and celebrate!

WHO LOVES A POOL PARTY? I do, I do! This Wednesday we will meet at the neighborhood pool of Julie and Amy Vincent for swimming and fellowship and pizza! It all starts at 6:30 pm and we will finish up at 8:30 pm. Wear your swim suit, (modest one piece or tankini girls) and bring a towel. Pizza and drinks will be served. This event is for Middle school and High school and College students and invite a friend!

Directions to Wexford:
Take Fury's Ferry and almost directly across from Publix is the entrance to Wexford. Turn in and the Clubhouse and pool will be directly in front of you. Park to the right near the tennis courts. If you have trouble call Krystal or Noah and we will help you get in. If you are being picked up by a parent make sure they know the code.

VBS starts bright and early on Monday morning and we need you hear and ready to go at 8:40 AM! If you want to help out but have not heard from Krystal or Glenda Gay please call Krystal ASAP so you will have a spot to serve. Also if you want snacks make sure to sign up for a day to bring them on the youth snack sign up! We are so thankful that so many of you are helping out this week and serving in many different ways. Please know that you are in our prayers. And we hope you will be praying too! Be praying that the Lord will work in the hearts of the kids this week. I am praying that as you serve you will know the joy of the Lord, and that by this service your hearts will be encouraged.

NEW SUMMER LINE UP!

This Summer will look different from Summers of the past. We are combining serving with social! There will be boys and girls Bible studies, two awesome camps, a zoo day, AGAPE days in three different months, VBS, Parent's Night Out, and movies that make you think! It might sound like the 12 days of Christmas... but it's not- it's the 76 DAYS OF SUMMER. From June 1st to August 15th (I do realize that you go back to school on the 10th) we are changing it up and having some fun! Look for new Summer calendars in the next couple of weeks.... and get excited!

Spring AGAPE is this weekend, believe it or not. April 25th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. We will meet at St. Paul's Missionary Baptist church on Telfair Street. Wear work clothes and closed toe shoes and come ready to serve others! If you need community service hours this will count for six hours of service. We also need people to bring Hotdogs and Hamburgers for lunch. Call Krystal if you have questions or can help out with lunch!

I know July seems like forever away, but forms are available for AWANITA and RYM. Some of you might be wondering if I am speaking a different language. RYM stands for Reformed Youth Movement and it is our Summer Camp in Panama City Beach for our high school students. AWANITA is the middle school camp that we attend in the mountains near Asheville NC. Both camps are awesome and we want you to come with us!

HERE'S THE CATCH... We only have 8 student spots for RYM!!! So the first little buddies that sign up get to go. Forms will be available on Wednesday at LYM. RYM is for rising 9th graders to just graduated seniors!

We have tons of spots for AWANITA. Rising 6th graders through rising 9th graders are allowed to go, and High schoolers can go as junior leaders! Forms will also be available at LYM this Wednesday.

HERE'S THE CATCH #2... If you sign up by May 13th the cost is $275.00 for each camp. After May 13th the cost goes up to $300.00. You might wonder, how do I sign up? Just turn in the release forms and a $50.00 non refundable deposit! Call Krystal or Noah if you have any questions.

We do not have LYM tomorrow, Sad, I know! But we are meeting on Saturday to clean up and paint the youth house! We will meet at Lakemont between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. We would love for you to come for an hour or two or all day and help us get the Youth House in good shape! The Cake Auction is almost here! January 11th make your cakes and come to early service because we are serving lunch to the church and selling some cakes! Chocolate cakes and strawberry cakes, little cakes and big cakes, cookies and brownies, many layered cakes and pound cakes..... and on and on and on! Be creative, no one will beat David Rigdon's Kitty Litter Cake from last year, but look through your mom's recipes and find something special! There will also be time on Saturday to help decorate the Fellowship Hall, if you can help talk to Krystal. Last Night Noah and Hilary and I joined the Yount family for a Portman's Concert featuring the Young and Talented Phillip Yount! He played a drums to "Meant to Live" by Switchfoot and it was totally rad! So no longer is Jack White or Johnny Cash my favorite musician, now it is all about Phillip Yount! Spin Magazine recently compared him to a young Don Henley and early Eagles! :o) Way to go Phillip! You Rock Our Socks! PS... "broken cisterns"

So lets imagine we are back on the playground. We are small children playing in the sand box. The day gets hot and our sweet mother brings a large full cup of fresh wonderful water. But instead of accepting the water we run off and find old broken paper cups and try to collect water from the nearby gutter. What silly children we would be...

Now lets switch switch positions, what if you were the parent, and your child would rather try to drink septic water from dirty, broken paper cup than the purified water that was in a clean perfect cup. You wouldn't allow it, you would think what a silly child, you would know what was best.

In Jeremiah 2:13 we read "for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed (made) out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water."

We are the people of God, and we (America, Lakemont, the youth) are very much like the people of Israel during the days of Jeremiah. We reject the Water of Life, Jesus, and we make idols that we think will save us! The Idols might not be Baal, it might be a possession, or a goal, or an idea. For me I have made an idol of being married one day... "If I was married that would solve all my problems". How silly that must sound to the Lord. He longs for us to accept the Water of Life, Jesus, and to be completely satisfied with Him! We have to daily give up those idols! We have to daily fall before the cross and be reminded of our dependancy of Christ! We have be reminded daily that we make idols of things, ideas, or goals!

Satan hates us all, he will use anything in your life to call you from the Saviour! He, Satan, is the one telling you to drink the old water from the broken cup. He tells you that you will be just as satisfied with the nasty broken paper cup! He will whisper these lies in your ear till the day you die, and you will die a fool!

Jesus offers us life to the FULL, THE FULL! The water He offers gives life! He loves you, He cares for you, He wants what is best for you! Does that not sound like the better option? He is all that is true and right in this world, Believe in Him, Drink from His cup, and be SAVED!

I am studying the book of Jeremiah, and it comes at an interesting time in the life of Lakemont, and our nation. Jeremiah the prophet is about to witness very difficult times for Israel. Israel has forsaken God, turned to false gods, and now they will face the discipline of God. But what does God tell Jeremiah? Dress yourself for work! A Godly people had turned from the true God, and Jeremiah had to be ready to serve, to work!
Let's be honest, for the most part America is not a Christian country anymore. It might say "In God we Trust" on our money but most people put more trust in the green piece of paper rather than God. (Thus the amount of chatter on the news about the bad economy!) We were founded as a Christian nation but we, like Israel, have turned our backs on the one true God, and we follow the false gods of our culture.
So Lakemont....are you dressed for work? Are you ready and willing to be an instrument of the Lord? With deaths, and people losing their jobs, divorce, and depression are you ready to serve the Lord at Lakemont and in Augusta? Are you ready to work?
How do you dress yourself for work? We need to be in the WORD daily! We have to serve from a heart full of God, not just out of a sense of what is right. We need instruction from God daily, so we have to read His word! We need to be on our needs talking to the Lord, asking for His direction, and lifting up the needs of the saints and the names of those who do not know Him! We have to be prepared, dressed right, in order to serve!
So Youth of Lakemont, I beg of you, dress yourself for work! Be prepared for the tough times ahead and serve the ONE TRUE GOD! I love you all desperately, you are my family, and you are all in my prayers!

Operation Christmas Child

Hey little buddies! We sure did miss you last week, but we are making up for it with two really fun service opportunities this week! First, Operation Christmas Child- we will meet at Warren Baptist at 6:30 PM. Meet in the parking lot behind Warren Baptist, directly across from Dairy Queen. Remember to bring one of the following items or more if you can... toothpaste (new and unopened), a stuffed animal 6 to 8 inches long, or a toy for a boy 10 to 14 years old. Also bring some money for ice-cream afterwards at Dairy Queen. We are meeting up with our buddies from Westminster and Redeemer and working along side the youth of Warren Baptist Church! This will be a great chance to meet other believers and serve sweet children all over the world!

The second way that you can serve this week is with a Serving Saturday. We will meet at Lakemont at 8:30 AM on Saturday. We will head over to the Rigdon's for some packing and painting and pulling up old carpet! FUN STUFF! We will be done around 12:00 PM. If you want to go get lunch we can grab something together or you can bring a sack lunch or go home, whatever your schedule and pocket allow! We need your help with both of these projects! So... how many times did you wash your hair on Wednesday night? Two times was the trick for me but based on the pictures I'm guessing that some of you are still finding cheese popcorn on your scalp! So after a long debate and using Mrs. Pam, the church secretary, as a tie breaker we have winners for the dirty nasty contest!

Swollen, Bruised and Broken

Phillip has probably broken a toe, Jamie Lynn probably has sprained her anckle, and Mr. Yount probably will need knee surgery!
We are running out of steam fast and we need prayers.
Pray that we finish the work well! We are accomplishing much but there seems to be a never ending supply of work that can be done! (Future mission trips to Ithaka!)

CLEAN BARN SORE MUSCLES

So yesterday we tackled the big barn. We moved thousands of pieces of wood, lots of random old farming supplies and many random doors. We also found racoon skulls, mummified cats, and what might have been at one time a possum. The power going down because of a mighty storm made the day much more interesting. The power did not come back on till around 4:00 PM and that meant no toilets or water. So the port-a-potty that Duane's dad bought came in quite handy.

We ended the day with a beautiful sunset and lightning storm, and The Return of the King! (The Movie) All in all it was a great day, and the tired muscles, well it's nothing a couple Advil can't help.

Pray for Julie, she wasn't feeling so well yesterday.
Pray for our safty, today we start work on the Stairs in the barn and the fence. And Jamie Lynn is working on a downstairs bathroom.
Pray for the community, we all are living in one house and we need to all get along.
Pray that the Lord will continue to be our strenght and help.

SPRING BREAK! WOOT-WOOT!

So it's official, Spring Break is here! Most of you are probably getting out of Augusta for a week of rest and relaxation with your family and friends. For those that are staying in Augusta here are a few tips...

1. Avoid Washington Road! Avoid it like you avoid folding laundry or cleaning the toilet!
2. Eat out now, not during Master's Week. Prices on menus mysteriously change during that one week. Maybe you can learn to cook something new and fun like ... Crab Cakes!
3. Walk places! gas will be a little more next week so just get in some exercise and walk everywhere.
4. If you are going to the tournament wear sunscreen, do not take a camera and do not take a cell phone! And keep a lookout for John Sartelle, our speaker at YoWAW. He will be around!
5. Visit someone from Lakemont. This is a great chance for you to think about others and to use that open schedule to visit or send a card to someone that might not expect it!

Mainly I wanted ya'll to know that we will not have youth Wednesday April the 9th due to Spring Break. We will see you the following week at LYM and the next weekend, April 18th and 19th for the Serving Saturday at the Yount's Lake House. Have a great week everybody~

Lunch with Julia

I get the wonderful privilege to hanging out with Julia Tweedy. She's 72, she loves her cat "Blessing", and she's from New York! She's fabulous! On Wednesday she had day surgery at Trinity Hospital. When we finally left the hospital it was around 1:15 PM. She had not eaten anything since about 7:30 the night before. She was pretty tired but still very hungry. So here is the conversation we had in the car on the way home...

Julia: I'm hungry.
Krystal: Do you want me to stop and pick you up something?
J: I want a fish sandwich from Arbys!
K: Are you sure Arbys has fish sandwiches? I thought that Wendy's has a new fish sandwich.
J: No, no, no... let's go to Arbys.
We pull up to Arbys, well we try, I missed the entrance the first time and the drive-thru the second time. (Third times the charm!)
K: Julia do you want the combo meal or the two sandwiches for $4.00?
J: The two for $4.00, that sounds good.
K: Do you want anything else?
J: A small curly fry.
K: Do you want anything else?
J: A small unsweetened Ice tea with lemon.
K: Do you want anything else?
J: Ummmmm... a apple turnover!
K: OK... Miss tweedy, that's a lot of food, are you going to eat it all now?
J: Oh no, that's why I got two sandwiches, I'll save one for dinner.
K: OK
So $7.99 later Julia has a meal that she takes home. She loves fish sandwiches. She wishes there was a Long John Silver around, but until one is built she will deal with Fish sandwiches from Arbys!

We hope that everyone is ready for a fun weekend up at Ridge Haven. Hopefully everyone has received the what to pack list in the mail, if not call Krystal to get a list.

There has been a change to our departure on Friday. We will meet at Christ Church at 4:00 PM Friday, February 15th, instead Lakemont. Directions to Christ Church: Turn onto Fury's Ferry off of Washington Road. You will pass the Lights at Baston Road, West Lake, and Evans to Locke. You will pass all three entrances to Jones Creek on your Left. The next left is the road Southern Pines, take that Left. You will immediately see Christ Church on your Right. If you need better directions or have a question please call Ryan or Krystal at the Church.

MY DAD THE PHILOSOPHER

Saturday Nights are Family Nights! I go to mom and dad's and hang out and eat dinner. Ashley comes over and we usually watch House Hunters on HGTV. Joseph usually has steak and so does Ashley, and I usually have chicken. Anywho... I was watching TV with Poppers, aka dad and a commercial for a credit card came on. The woman told her husband that they needed a new TV. Instantly this song came on with lyrics that go something like this, "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now!" My dad then says, "This is the song of a new generation."

I thought wow my dad is right, it's so true, that is how everything is! Wow dad what a deep thinker you are! Wow, maybe my dad is the new Socrates or some other famous thinker! Needless to say I looked at my dad a little differently.

Then Monday Night I was talking to my mom and the same commercial came on. I told her what dad said and how I was really impressed with his assessment of culture today. She laughed and told me that she had commented on the commercial on Friday night to dad. So basically poppers had just repeated what mom had said the night before.

So maybe my dad isn't Socrates, but I love him! And it is still true, our generation wants it all and now!

CAKE AUCTION NEWS

The Cake Fiesta was a huge success! We earned almost $3,000.00, and over a thousand of that will go towards Summer Mission Trips! A huge thanks to all the moms and dads that helped out by cooking ahead of time and helping in the kitchen! Thanks to Jeff Asmann and Darrell Boutwell, AKA Crisco and Pancho! You made the auction fun and filled the fellowship hall with laughter! Sweet youth of Lakemont, you did a great job serving and setting up, and your cakes were delicious! But I do need your help with one last thing! If you took any pictures at the Cake Auction I would love a copy, or you can send them to me via email! Well we have a whole year to get ready for the next cake auction! Viva el Cake!

SERVING SATURDAYS

Something that will start up in February that I am very excited about is SERVING SATURDAYS. We will go to the homes of people in the church that need a hand around their home doing simple tasks like raking leaves, mowing the grass, helping with Laundry, cleaning up or moving furniture. We will also help out the food ministry by preparing meals and visiting people that can not get out of the house. Winter and Spring AGAPE projects will also be a part of this. The first SERVING SATURDAY is February 9th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please bring a sack lunch and drink and wear work clothes.

You might wonder why we are doing this? Well we hear the Word of God weekly and sometimes several times a week, but we also need to show the love of God to others. We need to put that Word into Practice. THIS DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GOOD CHRISTIAN, IT DOES NOT MAKE GOD LOVE YOU MORE! This is a reaction to the great love that God has given us through His son, Jesus! We hope that we can serve the body of Lakemont and encourage others, that is the goal!

A Busy Weekend Ahead!

There are three big events this weekend that we hope you can be apart of! Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM we are cleaning the youth house! We need your help because the youth house is dirty! There are other projects to work on too around the church and helping prepare crafts for the church retreat! So please come, and do not wear nice clothes! Lunch is provided, pizza, salad, drink and dessert.

On Sunday evening we need your help at the Harvest Festival for the kids at Lakemont. Get here by 5:30 to 5:45 PM to help. You can work at a booth, face paint or help with snacks. After the Harvest Festival we will head over to Westminster for the Westmont Social! We will be at Westminster from 7:30 to 9:00 PM and we will have social time, dinner, singing and devotion and a game! Tell your parents to pick you up from Westminster PCA on Wheeler Road. Please bring a dollar or two to help out with dinner!

GUY'S NIGHT/GIRL'S NIGHT

This Friday we are spending time together, in North Augusta, but at different places!

The girl's will meet at Krystal's from 7:00 to 10:ish PM. We will study the 6th chapter of I Timothy, make something fun, share desserts with each other and watch a movie! Please bring a dessert and call Krystal for directions to her house.

The Guys are meeting up at Lakemont at 7:30 PM. (We moved the football and ultimate from Brookfield park to Riverview Park in North Augusta.) Parents can pick up the guy's from the home of Dan Adams' in North Augusta at 8:30 AM Saturday. The guys will also study the 6th chapter if I Timothy. They will be playing ultimate and football outside earlier in the night and video games and board games through out the night. Call Dan Adams for directions at 803-279-8349. The guys will need to bring a change of clothes and pillow and sleeping bag and a Bible.

Please eat dinner before you come to Krystal's house or Lakemont, dessert or snacks will be served, and breakfast will be served at Dan's house on Saturday. We will not meet for small groups on Saturday due to the guy's and girl's nights! We hope that you will come, bring a friend, and as always your parents are very welcome to come with you!

SKI TRIP COMING IN DECEMBER

December 27th through the 30th LYM will hit the slopes of Wolfe Ridge near Asheville NC. This is a Middle school trip but High school students can join us as junior leaders. We also would love any families at Lakemont to join us since it is during the holiday season. The cost is $175.00 per person and that includes all meals, ski lift, rentals, lodging, and entertainment! So sign up and bring your brother, sister, or a good buddy, the more the merrier! Sign up are due with a $50.00 deposit on December 5th. If you have any questions please call Ryan or Krystal at the church.

Hey little buddies! July has been a busy month but lonesome too. We have missed our Wednesday nights together! So we started back last night and we will see you the rest of August as we finish up Hebrews. There are a few new things to let you in on.

First, the LAKE-OUT has been moved to the Fall because of scheduling conflicts. That same weekend, August 10th and 11th we have the CEF training. If you want to help out at the Steven's Creek Kid's Club on Fridays this Fall or at another club you need to be at this training! The $25.00 training fee has been paid for any Lakemonters attending. It is on Friday the 10th from 6:30 to 9:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 Am to 1:00 PM. Please let me, Krystal or Glenda Gay know if you will attend.

Second, the Sr. High Rafting Trip with Westminster PCA is just around the corner. September 28th through 30th. We will be at Big Frog again and going down the Ocoee River. The cost is just $75.00 for the weekend and you can find forms on the youth board in the church or just ask Ryan or Krystal for one.
